Glory Seed Devotionals, 2015: Year of Promise
“I am with you always!”
This morning while reading a devotional written by another author he quoted a scripture from chapter 33 of Jeremiah, “Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.” (Jeremiah 33:3, ESV) When I finished reading the quote I immediately said to myself, “Now, that’s what I’m talking about for me.” It’s not that I was wanting to know great and hidden things I just needed the LORD to talk to me. I was in the middle of a Psalms 42 experience, “Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me?” (Psalm 42:5, ESV) and I really needed to get past that experience and experience the remainder of verse 5 , “Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation.” (Psalm 42:5, ESV)
Have you ever been at the point where all you really needed to feel the LORD’s presence, just to know that the LORD hadn’t left you alone?
After I finished reading the devotional (which by the way was very inspirational) I quickly turned to Jeremiah chapter 33 verse 3 but when I read verses 1, 2, and 3 together, “The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah a second time, while he was still shut up in the court of the guard: “Thus says the Lord who made the earth, the Lord who formed it to establish it—the Lord is his name: Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.” (Jeremiah 33:1–3, ESV) It was as if the LORD was saying, “Gary, verse 3 isn’t for you.”
I realized I’d taken verse 3 out of context, something I knew I shouldn’t do. At first I was disappointed. Then suddenly I realized the LORD did meet my need to “hear” from Him because He corrected me. A few minutes later I read, “But Jesus would often go to some place where he could be alone and pray.” (Luke 5:16, CEV) And I “felt” the Holy Spirit say, “That one is for you, Gary.”
Here’s the LORD’s take-away message us today, “And behold, I AM WITH YOU ALWAYS, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20, ESV) And never forget the LORD is always ready to give a reminder when we need one.
BE strong in the LORD!
Grace and PEACE, Amen!
Gary
