Glory Seed Devotionals, 2015: Year of Promise
What God really wants…
“Although you offer sacrifices and always bring gifts, I won’t accept your offerings of bulls and goats… If I were hungry, I wouldn’t tell you, because I own the world and everything in it. I don’t eat the meat of bulls or drink the blood of goats. I am God Most High! The only sacrifice I want is for you to be thankful and to keep your word. Pray to me in time of trouble. I will rescue you, and you will honor me.” (Psalm 50: 8–9, 12–15, CEV)
“The only sacrifice I want is for you to be thankful and to keep your word.” What God really wants can be summed up in two words – YOUR LOVE! I believe every one of our prayers in addition to our requests need to contain genuine words of thanks and genuine words of dedication of our lives to God.
While it may be true God doesn’t really need to hear them because he knows whether or not our words are genuine, we need hear ourselves saying them. I don’t know what there is about it but when we vocalize what is on our heart our words become powerful motivators. Even though that process is used in other areas such as athletics, our careers, or as a personal motivator when applied to our faith and trust in God we open ourselves up to God’s world and God comes marching in.
One of the things I’ve noticed about our oldest grandson is he is constantly telling his young 20 month old son he loves him. And neat thing is his, “I love you son!” is always accompanied by acts of love. What Ethan feels in his heart for Colton is expressed not only in living words but also in living action. I believe what lies on our hearts will not betray us although we can betray what lies on our hearts. Love is not a feeling although you can feel love – love is the life of God stimulating our lives to act in loving ways just like Ethan’s love for Colton stimulates his life. Now, put that idea of the stimulating power love on God’s scale and suddenly God comes alive in your life. Psalms 50 ends with, “The sacrifice that honors me is a thankful heart. Obey me, and I, your God, will show my power to save.” (Psalm 50:23, CEV)
Believe! Anticipate! Experience! Be transformed!
Grace and PEACE, Amen!
