Catching the Wind of God…

Every summer under the Blue Water Bridges that connect the United States and Canada you can see wind surfers skimming on the surface of the water pushed by the wind from one side the St. Clair River to the other. Not only can you see Wind Surfers but sail boats also are a common sight silently gliding out into Lake Huron or coming into the river. At the same time there are times when kite fliers can be seen flying their kites.

The wind is one of the most powerful forces known to humans. Jesus also talked about a Wind that blows out of God that far exceeds ANY power known to humans. “Only God’s Spirit gives new life. The Spirit is like the wind that blows wherever it wants to. You can hear the wind, but you don’t know where it comes from or where it is going.” (John 3:8, CEV, emphasis mine)

As an 8 year old boy I experienced the destructive power of the wind first hand as the winds from a tornado moved our house (with us in it) 20 feet out into our front yard. I am reminded of that experience each time I think about the movie The Wizard of Oz. Remember a tornado picked up the house Dorothy was in dropped it into the land of Oz? In a very real way that is what can and does happen to us when we allow the “unabated winds of life” to blow into our lives rather than the Wind of God.

Unlike wind surfers and sail boats whose destinations can be seen catching the Wind of God can only be done with REAL faith, it is a faith journey because. “You can hear the wind, but you don’t know where it comes from or where it is going.” “Real faith doesn’t sit still, but it doesn’t move on its own, either. We need to pray for God’s Spirit to ignite this desire in us, prompting us to act with love and obedience.” (Rebecca Van Noord)

But the good news is it is the Wind of God that not only carries you but also provides you with the REAL faith to believe and ride with the Wind according to God's Master Plan for your life.

Believe! Anticipate! Experience! Be transformed!
Grace and PEACE, Amen!
