Glory Seed Devotionals, 2015: Year of Promise
God must be a forethought not and afterthought…
“I am counting on the Lord; yes, I am counting on him… I have put my hope in his word. I long for the Lord more than sentries long for the dawn, yes, more than sentries long for the dawn.” (Psalm 130:2, 5-6, NLT)
A friend once told me when all else fails turn to God. At the time it sounded good after all God helps those that help themselves doesn't he? If God helps those who help themselves then why did Jesus say? “Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do. I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.” (Mark 2:17, NLT) God helps those who CANNOT help themselves. If God helps those who help themselves then why did he reduce Gideon's army from thousands to only 300? If God helps those who help themselves then why did Jesus need to die on the cross?
My friend was wrong. We should turn to God before all else fails. That may not stop the failure it sure will alter the outcome. God would rather do “preventive measures” rather than “damage control”. I remember a conversation in the summer of 2013 with my Cardiologist over my troubled heart in need of bypass surgery. Without the surgery a heart attack was inevitable and with the arteries involved there was a good chance it would be fatal. The surgery I needed was a preventive measure.
God wants to prepare us for the storms before they come. God wants to give us hope before hopelessness tries to destroy us. God wants to give us the Holy Spirit for those times when loneliness becomes our only companion. God wants to give us the Peace of Jesus so when conflicts arise we will not be rattled and become lost. God wants to give us faith so when everything we count on begins falling apart we'll know we can count on God.
Believe! Anticipate! Experience! Be transformed!
Grace and PEACE, Amen!
