Glory Seed Devotionals, 2015: Year of Promise
God’s lessons in patience in the classroom of life…
“This is what the Lord says: I will answer your prayers because I have set a time when I will help by coming to save you...” (Isaiah 49:8, CEV)
Heavenly God, even though I cannot speak for others I will speak for myself. I have a bone to pick with you. I believe your promise in Jeremiah chapter 29 where you promised you’ve good things for my life and not bad things. Yet it seems as if your promise will never happen. Have I not been patient, LORD? Have I not endured through the bad things life has thrown at me? Have I not gone to great lengths to keep hope alive? Have I not prayed over and over for the fulfillment of your promise? Yet all I have is what the Prophet Isaiah says you’ve set a time when you will help me. How long LORD will you hold to your own time schedule? My life continues to move forward on its own time schedule and I wonder how much longer can I wait for the fulfillment of your time? Amen…
I am not sure whether or not you’ve prayed words similar to those or not however, I can tell you I wrote them from my own experience. While on the surface they appear to be a lack of trust and “teetering faith” on my part they are actually lessons in becoming patient with God. By holding to his own schedule and not giving in to our schedule God is not only teaching us to be patient but also helping us depend on his sufficiency rather than our own self-sufficiency.
One story that comes to mind about being patient and depending on God’s sufficiency comes from the early verses in chapter 7 of Judges. Gideon started out with a large army and at the LORD’s instructions whittled it down to 300 because God wanted Israel to depend on him and not their own strength. Over the years that I’ve learned to depend God’s sufficiency and not my own and it is getting easier and easier for me to do so but his lessons in patience are very challenging at times to say the least.
Believe! Anticipate! Experience! Be transformed!
Grace and PEACE, Amen!

The LORD gives strength to those who are weary… But those who trust the LORD will find new strength…” (Isaiah 40:29, 31 CEV)
