God, you, and thin ice…
“This is what the LORD says: “Cursed are those who put their trust in mere humans, who rely on human strength and turn their hearts away from the LORD. They are like stunted shrubs in the desert, with no hope for the future. They will live in the barren wilderness, in an uninhabited salty land. “But blessed are those who trust in the LORD and have made the LORD their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.” (Jeremiah 17:5–8, NLT)
In his book “The Applause of Heaven” Max Lucado writes, “As long as Jesus is one of many options, he is no option. As long as you can carry your burdens alone, you don’t need a burden bearer. As long as your situation brings you no grief, you will receive no comfort. And as long as you can take him or leave him, you might as well leave him, because he won’t be taken half-heartedly.”
There are many lessons to learn from the Easter Story for me one lesson I need to incorporate in my day-to-day life is trusting God because it’s one thing to say I trust God with everything but another to trust God when I find myself walking on “thin ice” and the shoreline nowhere in sight. There is one standout verse from the entire Easter Story that encourages and empowers me to relinquish my fear of the “thin ice” to God who cares and watches over me. “Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.” (Luke 22:42, NLT)
When we relinquish our fear of “thin ice” to God who cares and watches over us something miraculous happens inside us, the apostle Paul explains. “My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. (Galatians 2:20 NLT)
Anticipate! Experience! Believe! Be transformed!
Grace and PEACE, Amen!
