Reflections…
“I love the LORD because he hears my voice and my prayer for mercy. Because he bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath! Death wrapped its ropes around me; the terrors of the grave overtook me. I saw only trouble and sorrow. Then I called on the name of the LORD: “Please, LORD, save me!” How kind the LORD is! How good he is! So merciful, this God of ours!” (Psalm 116:1–5, NLT)
We are persons with a past. We are persons with a present. We are persons with a future. As the present disappears into the past and as the future becomes the present “Sometimes it’s good to look back down we’ve come so far, we’ve gained so much ground.” (Lyrics from the song The Road to Zion) There are many verses in the bible the Holy Spirit brings to life as we spend time in reflection, one of them is found in the book of Revelations, “I know all the things you do, and I have opened a door for you that no one can close. You have little strength, yet you obeyed my word and did not deny me.” (Revelation 3:8, NLT)
“If we don’t learn from the past we are doomed to repeat it.” I am sure you’ve heard that or some form of it at least. It is based on the fact that history often is a prophecy of the future. By reflecting on the past it is possible for us to play a significant role in shaping our future. In addition consider this, history is not only a prophecy of the future it is also a living autobiography of our lives, more than that it is a living autobiography of our relationship with God, and his relationship with us.
Revelations 3:8 becomes a living testimony to you from God because you live your life in God’s presence. The Psalmist writes, “And so I walk in the LORD’s presence as I live here on earth!” (Psalm 116:9, NLT) What you experience God experiences. And somehow God is able to experience your past and your future as the present providing you the blessings you need to become the person you are meant to become.
Please do not let this day end without spending some time with God re-experiencing yesterday. The strength of our faith tomorrow comes from our life experiences today.
Anticipate! Experience! Believe! Be transformed!
Grace and PEACE, Amen!
Gary
