Walking the road to Emmaus…
“By this time they were nearing Emmaus and the end of their journey. Jesus acted as if he were going on, but they begged him, “Stay the night with us, since it is getting late.” So he went home with them. As they sat down to eat, he took the bread and blessed it. Then he broke it and gave it to them. Suddenly, their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. And at that moment he disappeared! They said to each other, “Didn’t our hearts burn within us as he talked with us on the road and explained the Scriptures to us?” And within the hour they were on their way back to Jerusalem. There they found the eleven disciples and the others who had gathered with them, who said, “The Lord has really risen! He appeared to Peter.”” (Luke 24:28–34, NLT)
After witnessing the crucifixion of Jesus two friends journeyed toward their hometown of Emmaus. It was a journey that changed their lives forever; it is a journey that will forever change your life.
As they walked the dusty road they encountered a stranger and invited him to journey with them. As the three walked and talked the two friends felt a warm burning sensation deep inside, it was a mysterious and unexplainable feeling of peace.
At the journeys end the two friends invited the stranger to their house for the evening meal. Before the meals end the journey on the Road to Emmaus would take an unexpected turn. The two friends would discover the mysterious stranger was the very one they had seen crucified. Suddenly to their amazement Jesus disappeared leaving the two wondering why they hadn’t known him sooner. “Did not our spirits burn deep with us as he walked with us, did we not feel peace as he talked?” they asked each other.
The entire world needs to journey the road to Emmaus, all the world needs to know that it is not alone. The journey on the road to Emmaus is the journey of knowing that Jesus walks every second of everyday not just with us but in us as well it is the assurance that we never journey alone. The journey on the road to Emmaus is the revelation that the Prince of Peace blesses us in ways we cannot describe. The journey on the road to Emmaus illustrates the undying love of the Savior patiently waiting, hoping, and praying for the voice of repentance. The journey on the road to Emmaus is to know that the power to overcome the Predator is only a prayer away.
The journey on the road to Emmaus is journey of a Savior who sometimes wishes to remain unseen hoping and praying that the very one’s he died for will build a relationship based on faith not on sight. The journey on the road to Emmaus is journey of a Savior who sometimes wishes simply to walk and talk with those whom he loves.
Grace and PEACE!
Believe it! Experience it!
