A Glory Seed Devotional
Thanksgiving is Givingthanks…
Thanksgiving is Givingthanks, and giving thanks is more than just saying thank you. Old Testament King Hezekiah put it to his people this way… “Now that you are once again acceptable to the LORD, bring sacrifices and offerings to give him thanks." The people did this, and some of them voluntarily brought animals to be offered as sacrifices.” (2 Chronicles 29:31 CEV) The king was telling his people if you are truly thankful for what the LORD has done for you don’t just say it illustrate it.
I remember as a kid one of the ways we were taught to show we were thankful for the Christmas gifts was to take them with us or wear them when we visited people, that has carried over into my adult years. There has been many times when as young boys our two sons would make us something for a holiday and we’d proudly display them as our way of saying thank you. If you are a parent, a grandparent, aunt, or uncle, or close friend I am sure there have been times when your refrigerator has been your own personal “Thank you for the gift Art Gallery”. And I am sure there are those among us who have fond memories of the gifts we’ve given others proudly displayed for the world to see.
Two weeks from today we will be celebrating Thanksgiving here in the United States and throughout our great country people will gather around tables in their own homes, in the homes of others, or in places where anyone can go, and we will enjoy a meal representative of our thankfulness. For some it will be just another holiday with family and friends, for some it will truly represent their heartfelt thanks for the blessings they’ve received over the past year.
And there are those who will good deeper in their thankfulness for them it will be a day to think about God and reflect on their lives and be thankful for the unseen blessings God has graciously given them not just over the past year but over the course of their life. If this past year has been a rough one and giving thanks is painful please let the Holy Spirit enrich your memory of past blessings.
I will leave you to think about what we can GIVE God to show how thankful we really are. “What can we bring to the LORD? What kind of offerings should we give Him? Should we bow before God with offerings of yearling calves? Should we offer Him thousands of rams and ten thousand rivers of olive oil? Should we sacrifice our firstborn children to pay for our sins? No, O people, the LORD has told you what is good, and this is what He requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.” (Micah 6:6-8 NLT)
By walking with us and blessing us with his presence God is illustrating his thankfulness for us.
Anticipate! Experience! Believe! Be transformed!
Grace and PEACE, Amen!
Gary
