A Glory Seed Devotional
The Holy Spirit “loans” us God’s Eyes…

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, "I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life." (John 8:12 NRSV)

Light is essential for seeing without it there would not only be no seeing there would be no life either. The prophet Isaiah connected Jesus’ birth and the Genesis account of creation, “Then God said, ‘Let there be light’; and there was light.” (Genesis 1:3 NRSV) “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who lived in a land of deep darkness--on them light has shined.” (Isaiah 9:2 NRSV)

The Genesis account of light brought life to the world, the Isaiah account of Light brought life to who experienced Jesus. Later Jesus promised that not only would his life be in us but we would also have God’s Light to see with. “He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive Him, because it isn't looking for Him and doesn't recognize Him. But you know Him, because He lives with you now and later will be in you.” (John 14:17 NLT)

Jesus was saying light is not only essential to see our world with, essential for life, but it is also essential to see the truth not as we see truth but as God sees truth. For example we may see a serious health issue as having a negative impact on our lives yet when experienced through the eyes of God it becomes a time of great blessings.

In her book Eyes of the Heart: Photography as a Christian Contemplative Practice Christine Valters Paintner quoted Richard Rohr. “Once I can recognize the divine image where I don’t want to see the divine image, then I have learned how to see. It’s really that simple. And here’s the rub: I’m not the one that is doing the seeing. It’s like there is another pair of eyes inside of me seeing through me, seeing with me, seeing in me. God can see God everywhere, and God in me can see God everywhere. —Richard Rohr. (Page 41 Ave Maria Press, Kindle Edition)

The Holy Spirit is the Active Presence of God not only in our world but also “loans” us God’s eyes so we can experience our world, others, and ourselves as God experiences our world, others, and ourselves. “It’s like there is another pair of eyes inside of me seeing through me, seeing with me, seeing in me.”

Believe it! Experience it!
Grace and PEACE,
Gary
