Glory Seed Guidelines

Notice – The ministries featured in this section of TheologyWeb are guests of this site and in some cases not bargaining for the rough and tumble world of debate forums, though sometimes they are. Additionally, this area is frequented and highlighted for guests who also very often are not acclimated to debate fora. As such, the rules of conduct here will be more strict than in the general forum. This will be something within the discretion of the Moderators and the Ministry Representative, but we simply ask that you conduct yourselves in a manner considerate of the fact that these ministries are our invited guests. You can always feel free to start a related thread in general forum without such extra restrictions. Thank you.

These daily devotionals are brought to you by Gary Piper, a writer with our Sister Site, Natural Spirit Ministries. TheologyWeb encourages you to visit and support their site.... they have many informative articles which can be discussed right here. If you enjoy Gary Piper's devotionals, please send him an encouraging note or post. We are very appreciative of our partnership with Natural Spirit Ministries and look forward to many more co-ventures.

A Planting of Faith Seeds for the Glory of the LORD
Water to Wine, Ordinary to Extraordinary…

“When the wine ran out, Jesus’ mother told Him, “They don’t have any wine.” “What has this concern of yours to do with Me, woman?” Jesus asked. “My hour has not yet come.” “Do whatever He tells you,” His mother told the servants.” (John 2:3–5, HCSB)

As I read the account of Jesus’ turning water into wine this morning I found myself intrigued by it because of its uniqueness. Most of Jesus’ miracles were about healing, casting out demons, calming storms, feeding hungry people, and even given people new life but his first miracle was about a party, a wedding party. My first real encounter with Jesus’ water to wine miracle was while in the Navy, “If Jesus turned water into wine it must be okay to drink alcohol then.”

For years I never gave it a second thought accepting it as Jesus’ way of introducing himself as a miracle worker. Then this morning I found myself asking the why and what question. “Why did Jesus turn water into wine and what was his message?” I am sure there are deep theological/historical answers however I am not a theologian nor am I a historian I am simple man needing Jesus as much as I love him searching for simple answers to the complexity of life. I believe one of the reasons for Jesus’ appearance in our world was to simplify God thus reducing the un-knowable to the knowable.

As I prayed for insight and understanding about the water to wine miracle I began to experience how Jesus through the Holy Spirit transforms the ordinariness of our lives into the extraordinary. Suddenly I experienced heart surgery and a subsequent heart attack going from “bad” to a deeper relationship with God. The more I thought about it the more needful and the more powerful my relationship with Jesus became, the more I could experience the transformation of “junk” into “treasure”.

For me this is Jesus’ underlying message of turning water into wine. “Now we have this treasure in clay jars, so that this extraordinary power may be from God and not from us. We are pressured in every way but not crushed; we are perplexed but not in despair; we are persecuted but not abandoned; we are struck down but not destroyed… Therefore we do not give up. Even though our outer person is being destroyed, our inner person is being renewed day by day. For our momentary light affliction is producing for us an absolutely incomparable eternal weight of glory. So we do not focus on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” (2 Corinthians 4:7-9, 16-18, HCSB)

    Believe it! Experience it!
    Grace and PEACE!
    Gary

Suddenly, Jesus was standing there among them! “Peace be with you,” he said.”
