A Planting of Faith Seeds for the Glory of the LORD
Lemons to Lemonade…

Last Thursday during my annual eye examination the eye doctor discovered that somehow scar tissue had formed on the retina of both my eyes which could eventually put my ability to see clearly in jeopardy. According to the doctor they can’t explain how it happens it just does. While the news is rather disturbing to me at the same time I find myself turning to and depending on God’s ability to make things that go wrong right. With each new experience I am getting better at letting God make lemonade out of my lemons!

Through the totality of Holy Week and the Easter Story the Holy Spirit is teaching us how dependent we really are on God, and how dependable God really is. I have learned over the years that not everything that happens to us comes from God but when they do when given the invitation God steps in and gives us the gift of the “lemons to lemonade.”

It never ceases to amaze me how when I look over my shoulder at my life’s experiences I can always see where God has gifted me not only with his presence though the Holy Spirit but with the “lemons to lemonade” gift as well. And in turn those experiences become prophesy of God’s continuing involvement in my life. This morning during my Lenten reflections on the past and anticipations of what will yet be the Holy Spirit guided me to the first chapter of James and upon reading verses 16 through 18 I found my relationship with Jesus and my dependency on God deeper.

“So don’t be misled, my dear brothers and sisters. Whatever is good and perfect comes down to us from God our Father, who created all the lights in the heavens. He never changes or casts a shifting shadow. He chose to give birth to us by giving us his true word. And we, out of all creation, became his prized possession.” (James 1:16–18, NLT)

What happens to us doesn’t always come from God but the good that comes out of what happens to us is always a gift from God. God did not put Jesus on the cross but God raised him from what the cross did to him. In a like manner God can and will transform your lemons into the sweetest lemonade you’ll ever taste!

Believe it! Experience it!
Grace and PEACE!

“Then the disciple who had reached the tomb first also went in, and he saw and believed—for until then they still hadn’t understood the Scriptures that said Jesus must rise from the dead. Then they went home.” (John 20:8–10, NLT)
