A Planting of Faith Seeds for the Glory of the LORD
Jesus LIVES…

Jesus is who he is not because he says who he is but because he LIVES his life as who he says he is! Matthew writes, “Jesus told them, “Go back to John and tell him what you have heard and seen—the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cured, the deaf hear, the dead are raised to life, and the Good News is being preached to the poor. And tell him, ‘God blesses those who do not turn away because of me.’” (Matthew 11:4–6, NLT)

I believe Jesus’ 40 day trek in the wilderness following his baptism wasn’t just to be tempted by the Devil I believe it was so he could find out who he wasn’t and who he was, who he could lean on, and who he couldn’t lean on. Jesus went into the wilderness not to find God but to find himself and to experience firsthand who he was without God.

We have counted off 40 calendar days before Resurrection Morning and called it Lent. In my studying what Lent is and what it isn’t I’ve discovered that it has different meanings and practices. For me that means Lent is a very personal time. I understand it as similar to Jesus’ 40 day trek in the wilderness, a time of personal discovery, a time of “selling all that I have,” “picking up my cross” and following Jesus. That does not mean we isolate ourselves from everyone because as important as continually forming and deepening our relationships with those around us ultimately it is our relationship with Jesus that is paramount. I believe our relationship with Jesus is the cornerstone of all other relationships.

Jesus is who he is to me not just because the bible tells me so but because I have been spiritually blind and now I see, because I have stumbled through life and now I do my best to walk upright, because Jesus has gotten me through many physical difficulties, because once I couldn’t hear the Spirit talking to me and now I am getting better at it, and most important (to me) Jesus has raised this poor man to Child of God status and Kingdom of God Resident.

And while that testimony is mine and even though our circumstances are different I’ll bet your story is similar!

Believe it! Experience it!
Grace and PEACE!
Gary

“Then the disciple who had reached the tomb first also went in, and he saw and believed—for until then they still hadn’t understood the Scriptures that said Jesus must rise from the dead. Then they went home.” (John 20:8–10, NLT)
