Deeper Waters Forum Guidelines

Notice The ministries featured in this section of TheologyWeb are guests of this site and in some cases not bargaining for the rough and tumble world of debate forums, though sometimes they are. Additionally, this area is frequented and highlighted for guests who also very often are not acclimated to debate fora. As such, the rules of conduct here will be more strict than in the general forum. This will be something within the discretion of the Moderators and the Ministry Representative, but we simply ask that you conduct yourselves in a manner considerate of the fact that these ministries are our invited guests. You can always feel free to start a related thread in general forum without such extra restrictions. Thank you.

Deeper Waters is founded on the belief that the Christian community has long been in the shallow end of Christianity while there are treasures of the deep waiting to be discovered. Too many in the shallow end are not prepared when they go out beyond those waters and are quickly devoured by sharks. We wish to aid Christians to equip them to navigate the deeper waters of the ocean of truth and come up with treasure in the end.

We also wish to give special aid to those often neglected, that is, the disabled community. This is especially so since our founders are both on the autism spectrum and have a special desire to reach those on that spectrum. While they are a special emphasis, we seek to help others with any disability realize that God can use them and that they are as the Psalmist says, fearfully and wonderfully made.

  • Do Women Need Theology?

Alyssa Poblete as the Gospel Coalition has written an article on why women need theology. I agree with her article, but disagree with her concern. http://deeperwaters.ddns.net/?p=8506

Nick, perhaps there were tones and body language in the conversation which made her feel she was being gently dissuaded. To be honest I would feel like I was being dissuaded if that was said to me because it would make me question to myself about just how deeply a woman could discuss and debate theology with anyone other than her husband or pastor.

Studying God's Word does bring you closer to God and reveals Him, so like Alyssa Poblete I think that it is essential to do that. If a woman has to continually pace herself with her husband then what of the woman who's husband is not really interested in Bible study?

Also if the Bible really does say women are not to be pastors and men are to be the spiritual leaders then study will lead to that conclusion and if the woman gets it wrong then her spiritual leader will be able to show her where she went wrong in her thinking - and if he cant convince her, then at least have the gumption to stick to his own understanding of what is right if he believes she is wrong. Men don't lead because women allow them to lead. What kind of a leader is that, but one in name only.

To my way of thinking, instead of perhaps giving the women the impression they need to dumb-down lest they usurp their role, the pastor should have gone to the men and told them that the women were studying and they too needed to get studying so they could be up for their responsibility. If you are a spiritual leader then you keep tabs on the flock by taking an interest in what they are doing and so address error where you see it, or even change your own thinking if you decide you yourself are in error.

I don't really have a problem with that. I was writing on it because a friend sent it wanting my opinion. I really didn't see what her disagreement was, though it could be tone said something different.
