Deeper Waters Forum Guidelines

Notice – The ministries featured in this section of TheologyWeb are guests of this site and in some cases not bargaining for the rough and tumble world of debate forums, though sometimes they are. Additionally, this area is frequented and highlighted for guests who also very often are not acclimated to debate fora. As such, the rules of conduct here will be more strict than in the general forum. This will be something within the discretion of the Moderators and the Ministry Representative, but we simply ask that you conduct yourselves in a manner considerate of the fact that these ministries are our invited guests. You can always feel free to start a related thread in general forum without such extra restrictions. Thank you.

Deeper Waters is founded on the belief that the Christian community has long been in the shallow end of Christianity while there are treasures of the deep waiting to be discovered. Too many in the shallow end are not prepared when they go out beyond those waters and are quickly devoured by sharks. We wish to aid Christians to equip them to navigate the deeper waters of the ocean of truth and come up with treasure in the end.

We also wish to give special aid to those often neglected, that is, the disabled community. This is especially so since our founders are both on the autism spectrum and have a special desire to reach those on that spectrum. While they are a special emphasis, we seek to help others with any disability realize that God can use them and that they are as the Psalmist says, fearfully and wonderfully made.

  • Why Neil DeGrasse Tyson Should Stick To Science

Good science does not necessarily equal good philosophy. http://deeperwaters.wordpress.com/20...ck-to-science/

I'm always still in trouble again

"You're by far the worst poster on TWeb" and "TWeb's biggest liar" --starlight (the guy who says Stalin was a right-winger)
"Overall I would rate the withdrawal from Afghanistan as by far the best thing Biden's done" --Starlight
"Of course, human life begins at fertilization that’s not the argument." --Tassman

I really can't stand this new breed of Celebrity Spokesperson Scientists, like DeGrasse and Kaku. They talk down to their audience in a condescending way and come across as smug jerks.

It's not really new. Tyson is just "Carl Sagan in blackface" as I've seen it put.
"As for my people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O my people, they which lead thee cause thee to err, and destroy the way of thy paths." Isaiah 3:12

I guess I meant "recent" as in the last 5 years. Tyson and Kaku are everywhere and I can't stand either of them. Although I would say Michio Kaku is the worst of the two.

I never heard of Kaku until today.

Nah, Carl Sagan wasn't as nearly as much of a jackass as Tyson.

Don't see a problem with it, other than the ridiculous hair.

It's his tone of voice and condescension that wears on you after you listen to him for a while. That clip wasn't too bad, but if you watch a few show with him on it you will understand.

Somebody else has quoted the Deeper Waters article. http://www.uncommondescent.com/scien...a-philosopher/

ETA: Just now read the comments, I see that someone already knows this.

Yep. I saw it as well. I get notification about something like that. Really nice the way Wordpress works and really nice to see someone sharing what I write.

Agreed. Sagan had a joy and enthusiasm that shown through. And he could speak in simple terms without being obviously condescending. Tyson, OTOH, comes across at times as insufferably smug.

An atheist on Amazon once recommended I read Sagan's "Demon-Haunted World."

I read it and while I disagreed with a lot in it, I found that I liked Sagan's writing and found he would be a likable fellow and not at all like the new atheists of today.
