Church History 201 Guidelines

Welcome to Church History 201.

Believe it or not, this is the exact place where Luther first posted the 94 thesis. We convinced him to add one.

This is the forum where the Church and its actions in history can be discussed. Since CH201, like the other fora in the History department, is not limited to participation along lines of theology, all may post here. This means that anything like Ecclesiology can be discussed without the restrictions of the Ecclesiology forum, and without the atmosphere of Ecclesiology 201 or the Apologetics-specific forum.

Please keep the Campus Decorum in mind when posting here--while 'belief' restrictions are not in place, common decency is and such is not the area to try disembowel anyone's faith.

If you need to refresh yourself on the decorm, now would be a good time.

Well yes, there are those pretend Jews who like to get out the dressing up box.

A laudable approach. Assistance without any attempt to proselytise.

However, I have not seen any advertisements for IFJC and so I cannot comment.

Many charity appeals often rely on the "before" and "after" approach showing the viewer what their donation can achieve.

Of course I could turn your question around to you and ask Why does your loving deity permit the suffering and cruelty in the first place?
I am sure he would ask you the same thing.

Serious answer here -- there are some movements on the fringe of Christianity that tend to "play" Jewish.
So, yes, I know a "Rabbi" who is not Jewish at all, but he thinks he's part of that whole scene, even giving Hebrew names to himself and his family.

While I don't actually acknowledge him as a Rabbi, he's most certainly not Jewish at all.

Kind of a version of "replacement theology".

There are always the fringe eccentrics.

I would contend that for those who profess a belief in a benevolent, omniscient, and omnipotent Creator Being that is something of a "cop out".

Most of us don't believe in such a limited God.

I have not thought they were supporting Jews in Israel. For some reason, I got the impression they were helping Jews in the Ukraine or Eastern Europe.

I do agree that something is off with the group. On occasions when I get their mailings, they go in the trash,

                          Or maybe using actors.

There's definitely a "Russian Jew" implication, but I believe they're "in Israel".... maybe they purposely aren't too specific.

Good on you --- the most memorable commercial I've seen is this one --- dealing with Ukraine and former Soviet areas....

In the far reaches of the former Soviet Union, Holocaust survivors are struggling to survive every day. You can help provide a food box filled with staple foods as well as the special items, like matzah, needed to properly observe Passover.
