  • Sex drive and Diet

Hey...so us guys tend to be very interested in sex. No new revelation there! Last time I was posting on Tweb quite a while back I was trying to help a brother in here, as he struggled with porn. I gave him a lot of biblical counsel. He just couldn't let go of the addiction.

So I knew about the draw to want to look at girls, and lust and all that junk God calls us to avoid...I knew the temptation, even if God was gracing me with the power to flee from it. I hated the temptation. Everyday I had to repeatedly tell myself "thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife, female servant, etc." That works great for me.

I see em walking down the street in a little workout get up and I just repeat that Scripture.

Ok...so why the thread title? Well I started this new low carb diet back in November. I just wanted to get in shape. The diet is perfect for me. But the one benefit I wasn't looking for is that lowering carbs, lowers testosterone levels.

I didn't notice anything the first couple of weeks, but then it dawned on me...hey...I am not nearly as interested in sex as I was. That might sound bad to some young buck in here reading this, but for an old dude like me who has been annoying his wife with requests for years...it has been a wave of relief to not have the constant desire.

I wish I knew this when I was talking to that brother in here a year ago. He may have really calmed down if he got away from the typical 200 or more carbs a day Americans are known to consume. Try cutting down to 20 carbs and upping good fats and protein...it would be a blessing to many wives, at least the older ones.

Oh no...GoBahnsen puts his foot in his mouth again! Ok...go ahead and blast me. I'm ready

GB: GoBahnsen, why do you set yourself up for a blast?

GoBahnsen: I don't know...old habits? I know,.... what do I know? Maybe lots of older wives are troubled by their husband's lack of interest. I tend to project my own experience on others...I guess that's it.

GB: Why can't you be like other normal people who don't do that kind of thing?

GoBahnsen: Good point GB, I don't know...I'm just me and I don't always fit into the crowd that well. I don't feel normal. I don't like being normal. It seems boring to me. But then I also don't like having my abnormal ways pointed out to me...especially when it's done by someone like LGM

I've been on a low carb diet ever since I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I typically average 10-15 grams of carbs per day. But, I can testify that it has done nothing to decrease my sex drive. It's interesting how our bodies differ in response to similar things.

OK...well thanks for letting me know that Bill. I thot I had discovered the cure for lust

I guess it all depends on your circumstances too. If you are blessed with an interested wife, then it's good to be interested yourself. But I do think that many marriages are out of balance in that department...and sadly, too many guys turn to other women, porn, etc. in order to cope with the never ending itch.

So I don't know whether to rejoice with you brother...or weep with you.

How are you feeling on the 10 to 15 carbs? I feel awesome. I have never felt better. But I do lack the energy for hard exercise. So I do moderate exercise until I reach my goal and then I plan to up my carbs to 40 or 50 a day. Get some good fruit back in, like blueberries.

If it works for you, it may work for some others.

Well, I do have a smoking hot wife (in my eyes for sure!)

So I don't know whether to rejoice with you brother...or weep with you.
It is difficult to be sensitive to her needs too. She is in early stages of menopause, so there are large swaths of time where she isn't interested at all.

It does feel different. It's weird. I don't feel "heavy" any more. I still need to get on exercising, but I feel much better, my eyesight seems to have improved some, and I don't have the dizzy spells I used to have. I definitely feel better.

Hey, my wife is a hottie too. But she lost her sex drive 20 years ago. You're right, if low carbing works for me in the sex drive thing, it no doubt helps others too. We are all different and yet similar too, huh?

I've read about the improved eye-sight thing. Hey, the benefits of going low carb are off the charts. I'm glad to hear that you feel better going LC. How long has it been?

I could use some help in the hearing department. I was low carb for several years. Did not seem to do much for reducing sex drive, but age has helped on that score. I am now on a high protein moderate carb diet.
Micah 6:8 He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?

I was just kidding about the hearing thing...I got bored and tried to be funny, again. 5 months huh? Mind telling what a typical day looks like meal-wise? And you said you're still working on getting the exercise going... Do you like to exercise? Some people hate it. I don't particularly like it, but I figure the only thing worse than exercising is NOT exercising.

But even if it's just getting out and walking around for awhile. I always like walking, especially if I can get to a beautiful area. But if it can only be around the block, then better than nothing.

Hey ya Jed! Mind telling what your meal plan looks like? I don't want to get too personal. Do you need to drop a few pounds? Do you care about that kind of thing? How do you feel? Do you want to feel better? Have a great day Jed.

Do you work out a lot? Otherwise high protein tends to be bad for you.

Ahhhh the man knows his stuff a little. Yeah, too much protein will convert to glucose and get stored as fat if you aren't burning enough calories, like one would if one would get out and move around. Of course, it's always true, no matter what we eat, if we take in more than we put out, we will get bigger.

The one truth that is still lost on many people, is the benefits of eating good fats. Having a diet rich in good fats (coconut, safflower, olive oils, etc, eggs, avocados, organic ground beef-not lean) these foods speed up metabolism and aid in weight loss. they do not trigger insulin release (a diabetics concern) and since they don't fill the blood up with sugar and insulin (the fat storing hormone), they are a dieters best friend. And they DO NOT clog your arteries, in fact they help to reduce that problem.

Just do the research. Thanks for the input Darth

Actually I was thinking of kidney damage.

Yeah...there's that too. But if the kidneys are functioning normally, there shouldn't be a problem...unless the protein intake is ridiculous. Plus...you need to drink plenty of water, keep the kidneys flushed out. Again, check with your doctor if you suspect your kidneys are compromised already. Gotta be careful with those things
