  • Police Chief in Serious Condition

About a year ago, our Police Chief had a stroke. Challenging, but he began to improve. He started off with half days back at the office, with a really good command staff to lean on (including my son-in-law who heads up administration).

Yesterday he had another stroke. This time much more severe.

He was lifeflighted to the same hospital where I'm vising our EMS guy who will have surgery in the morning.

Chief is heavily sedated, and things look much less hopeful this time around.
The first to state his case seems right until another comes and cross-examines him.

If it weren't for the Resurrection of Jesus, we'd all be in DEEP TROUBLE!

Latest report - MRI completed - appears no evidence of a stroke as originally thought, but a large mass detected on/in/around his brain.

Specialist last night said the images of the "mass" (not calling it a tumor) suggest high probability it's benign. This could be really good or really bad.

Chief woke up - is responsive and coherent. Doctors don't know why. I do.

So, I think it was Sunday morning, they tried to remove the tubes and stuff, and the Chief actually flat-lined.
They had do do CPR (no shock necessary) and they "brought him back", and decided to let him rest and try again.

The next morning, they tried again, much less drama, and he is alert and communicating.

Chief will be released from the hospital as soon as they can find a rehab center near us to manage his recovery. The hospital where both he and Josh have been hunkered down is more than an hour and a half away, Texas driving speeds.

The Chief had planned on retiring at the end of the year, but I seriously doubt he will be returning to work prior to that. Stable, but a long way to go.

OK, relapse - not looking so good... back intubated and on the critical watch list.

                          So about a 140 miles.

                            A little less, but, yeah.

Visited Chief yesterday -- doesn't look good at all.
His nurse tried to wake him for me - she tapped his chest rather soundly, and yelled "your chaplain is here to see you", but there was only deep snoring and a total lack of response.

I contacted the Police Chaplain for that city, and he called me last night saying he stopped by the hospital to visit the chief, and... same thing - unresponsive.

It's not looking good at all.
