  • Minor Health Issue

Gather 'round folks, whilst I tell a story.

For about 10 years, I've had a fairly regular upset stomach. It never got super bad (not usually, at least), and it rarely stopped me from doing most things in life, but it was there and it was tremendously annoying. I won't bother trying to explain all the symptoms--they're weird, and somewhat extensive. Throughout this period I spoke to multiple people about my symptoms, including two doctors (one of them a gastroenterologist). None of them had ever encountered these symptoms before.

So, I had largely resigned myself to living with these symptoms for the rest of my life. Again, it's not horribly bad (unless I let it get aggravated, then it can become nearly debilitating), and if it never changed I could lead a totally normal life.

I started seeing a chiropractor last year. (Incidentally, my body is remarkably crooked.) I mentioned my symptoms to him, and he referred me to a kinesiologist that he knew and held in high regard.

I went to see her, and she diagnosed me with a tapeworm.

...yeah. Apparently I'd had this thing for a decade. So she gave me a parasite cleanse, which I did. It was the first time that anything had actually helped. After the cleanse, which basically just involved some over-the-counter herbal supplements, I noticed a significant reduction in my symptoms. I thought I was cured.

A couple months ago the symptoms came back. They didn't come back with a vengeance or anything; they just came back, same as ever. I actually told the kinesiologist this, and she recommended a liver cleanse. Any thoughts on these? Opinion on the efficacy of liver cleanses is...inconclusive, to say the least. I'm not sure if I should try it, so if any of you have some experience with them one way or the other I'd appreciate it.

Anyway, I wouldn't mind prayer. Again, it's not really a big deal, but it is very annoying. The past week or so the symptoms have been strangely persistent, and it's quite irksome.

The first to state his case seems right until another comes and cross-examines him.

I'm ... pretty iffy about alternative medicine. That being said, a tapeworm infection is fairly easy to diagnose, and easy to treat.

I'm especially suspicious about anything promoted as a "liver cleanse." they can be very hard on the body with no verified benefit. http://www.webmd.com/balance/natural...iver-cleansing

I don't pray, but I do hope that your health improves.

Sorry to hear you are having chronic problems, you have my sympathy and empathy.

Highly skeptical of kinesology. After first one impressed me with pinning something down I didn't mention, I am now convinced it was pretty much a cold reading.

If you did have a tapeworm, you would have noticed it as your body "got rid" of it after the "cleansing." Tape worms are pretty long. Also your doctors would have found it if they did any sort of normal stomach/intestinal tests as they should have done, like using an ECG scope or giving you a colonoscopy, or even an ultrasound or CT scan.

            kinesology is quack science.

If you havent had any scoping or ct scans done, I urge you to do that first, with a real doctor.

As far as liver problems, they can be diagnosed by simple blood tests at your doctors office.

When I visited the gastroenterologist, he directed me to a radiologist who was supposedly looking for those very things. They didn't find anything, and recommended I take some antacids. Antacids have never helped. I'm skeptical of the kinesiologist too, but what she had me take has been the only thing that I've ever noticed to make a difference.

It was quite frustrating when, after a very thorough description of my symptoms to the stomach specialist, he said, "Well Adam, that's an interesting story. I have no idea what the problem is."

so go to another gastroenterologist. ask for an ECG to be done (I have to go in for one this Friday myself!) - I also take acid reducers (prevacid) every day.

I know what it's like to have chronic problems. Hopefully there is someone who can figure out what this is and fix it.

I have a theory as to why the cleanse worked, but I wouldn't do another one. You likely have an allergy or intolerance that a doctor needs to trouble shoot. Pooping for life isn't going to be the answer. I'll be praying.
