Missing my dad

I have no major regrets with my dad--we were on good terms when he passed away and had a very solid relationship. Still, there are a bunch of things that I just miss doing with him.

I wish I could play chess with him (and lose), I wish I could talk to him about politics and theology, I wish he could meet my wife and kids, I wish I could watch a Boise State football game with him....

Edit: I wish I could hear him preach again, too.

Losing someone, especially a relative is hard. Especially when there are big events you feel they should be there for.

Yeah. Birthdays, holidays... are especially rough. Especially the first couple.

My dad's been gone for almost five years now, but naming my son after him has made me miss him a lot more lately. The other night I was trying to imagine what his reaction would have been if I introduced his grandson to him, with his name.

I'm just missing my dad today.
