To tell the truth I was surprised to hear he was still alive all this time. I thought he had died long ago.
But I think he was ultimately a good guy who helped free his country from communism and broke up the soviet union. Until Putin took over and it became a totalitarian state instead.

But he didn't intend to break up the empire. He said he wanted to change socialism and give it a happy face (or some such slogan, I forget now). Even after the Soviet Union collapsed, he insisted he could have made it all work if he had the proper tools.
