  • Captain Sir Tom Moore has died.

Last April pensioner Thomas Moore decided to do something for the over-worked over-stressed workers of the British National Health Service. The whole country was in lockdown back then and Health reports were (and are) the top News stories. He proposed a sponsored campaign whereby he would walk 100 whole widths of the garden patio at his retirement home.

He hoped to raise £1000. It didn't quite work out like that. The contributions poured in, and kept pouring in..... Thomas's sposored walk raised a £100,000 pounds and the whole country was delighted about this story.

But it didn't work out like that........ the contributions never ceased, and now the total figure is over £37,000,000.

For his wonderful determination, guts and success his old regiment raised him up from Captain to Honorary Colonel, and he was knighted by the Queen at 100 years of age.

And when Piers Morgan's research team started to dig in to Tom's life they realised just how humble a gentleman he really is. A non commisioned ranker, he received a field commission after his daring motorcycle rides through the Burmese jungle searching out safe routes for troops to follow. He had been an off-road motorcyclist before the War. I did wonder what the campaign stars on his chest were all about.

Sadly the old warrior went down with pneumonia last week, and he is said to have contracted Covid as well, and he has died. I'll bet that we name a hospital after him, and strike a few coins. His memory deserves more than that.
