Natural Science 301 Guidelines

This is an open forum area for all members for discussions on all issues of science and origins. This area will and does get volatile at times, but we ask that it be kept to a dull roar, and moderators will intervene to keep the peace if necessary. This means obvious trolling and flaming that becomes a problem will be dealt with, and you might find yourself in the doghouse.

As usual, Tweb rules apply. If you haven't read them now would be a good time.

    That wasn't at issue.

        It's okay - the aliens won't know.

Also the thinking could be that any aliens that are alien enough to not understand/decode our messages are aliens we probably could never communicate with anyway, so why not gear our messages to the type of alien that could communicate with us. A kind of "test" built into the message.

But the idea was to make the message as easy to 'read' as possible. Aliens would not be able to read our "computer chips" - the chances they have developed the same technology as us is very unlikely, and reverse engineering a memory card is nearly impossible because you would have to destroy it to figure out how it works and would lose the data.

The idea of the record, with instructions on how to build the player and supplying the needle was pretty brilliant.

You still have not answered specifically what you would have put in the very limited space the technology of the time had.

Not today, Shuny - the issue is cronyism and we aren't going down the rabbit hole. I gave you an answer that addressed the concern. Now, tell me why what was included didn't represent Earth as Sagan and his friends saw it.

No, question irrelevant to issue. Either show relevance or leave thread.

Tired. Not putting in effort for Shuny's stupid trick.

. . . because he strongly objected without specific reason what he would have made the message contain in the limited space available at the time.

Actually the technologically advanced aliens on distant planets would learn far more from our radio, television, and other communication transmissions that preceded and transmitted since that the very limited brief greeting contents of the pioneer 10 space probe.

                                er what?

The Pioneer 10 only had a metal plaque on it. Voyager 1 and 2 had the record with the data on it. Teal was talking about the Voyager probes.
